Learning how to use the koma for beading (and the beading koma itself) was worth the price of the class for me.mchttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16781345992575263896noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4919615328587796122.post-56388933418777243532018-01-27T17:06:19.202-08:002018-01-27T17:06:19.202-08:00I keep looking at patterned fabrics thinking that ...I keep looking at patterned fabrics thinking that they would be good candidates for bead embellishment. It's a dangerous thing to be thinking about!

If I was doing this on my own (i.e., not having a class with a set project) I would start with something quite small. The instructions in Margaret Lee's book should be enough to get started.

I also think I'd like to try a combination of embroidery and beading. I was working on 'Wild Child' today and I know that doing all of it in beads is going to drive me nuts!mchttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16781345992575263896noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4919615328587796122.post-17600651661266793972018-01-27T16:54:18.535-08:002018-01-27T16:54:18.535-08:00We missed you in the class! :-(We missed you in the class! :-(mchttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16781345992575263896noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4919615328587796122.post-20138659263097005692018-01-27T16:32:22.330-08:002018-01-27T16:32:22.330-08:00Jealous! And I am not afraid of experimenting :). But first, there are some projects that I do need to finish. Like you, I don't like to have many projects on the go at the same time. (She has the *best* laugh!)

Regarding the beading koma: as I understand it you traditionally take two small koma, tie them together, and then wind your string of beads over the pair of koma. Mary Alice's beading koma is a single wide koma which, I think, just makes things easier. It also seems to me that one koma would be more stable than two tied together.

The 4th photo on this post shows two koma being used for beading:

http://threadsacrosstheweb.blogspot.com/2009/05/japanese-bead-embroidery-phase-ii.htmlmchttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16781345992575263896noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4919615328587796122.post-62598387347605714562018-01-26T17:36:12.897-08:002018-01-26T17:36:12.897-08:00I highly recommend the class.I highly recommend the class.mchttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16781345992575263896noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4919615328587796122.post-60000839940554259462018-01-26T12:27:30.801-08:002018-01-26T12:27:30.801-08:00What a fun looking project!
